Qualification & Specialization

Diploma

A diploma course is a short term course of 1 to 2 years in duration that focuses on training a person in a particular field. Most of the course is aimed towards attainment of practical skills. Apprenticeship is an integral part of these courses. Most diploma courses have on-the-job training and apprenticeship, and focus more on practical exams. You can attain a diploma in most practical industries like Industrial training, Beauty and Hairdressing, Garment technology, laborotory technician etc.

Advanced Diploma

An advanced diploma holder would have acquired broad skill and knowledge qualified to work in relevant skilled and para-professional bodies for specialised skilled work. Holders of an advanced diploma may be exempted by a university for 2 to 3 semesters of studies at the university's relevant bachelor course. The course is mostly taken by professionals as an extension of their existing qualifications like in Accounting & Finance, Advertising, Animation, Aviation, Financial Planning etc.


Associate Degree

An associate’s degree is an academic program taken at an undergraduate level i.e. it's the first stage after secondary school. Its aim is to give students the basic technical and academic knowledge along with transferable skills they need to go on to employment or further study in their chosen field. Few programs offered under the associate degree are Business and Commerce Technology, Mechanical Technology, Data Processing etc.

Bachelor’s Degree

The duration of a bachelor's degree course is usually 3 - 4 years and the emphasis is on academics. For example, B.Com (H) is a 3-year degree course that teaches students subjects like accountancy, economics, and business studies; B.Tech is a 4-year degree course that teaches subjects like math, physics chemistry and computers, while also including the subject one plans to major in, an MBBS is a 5 and 1/2-year long degree that teaches the general aspects of medicine. Most employers look for a minimum of Bachelor's degree when it comes to recruitment.

Post Graduate Certificate

A postgraduate certificate is an educational document that adds advanced skills in a specific area of specialization for a student. Essentially, a postgraduate certificate will give you the eligibility to practice a particular profession. It is less than a postgraduate diploma or Masters Degree. Normal duration of it being 6 months. Mostly provided by universities in the UK and Australia. In Canada the duration of this particular course is for 1 year and it is an extension of the Bachelor Degree earned by the candidate. As with other diplomas focus is more on enhancing the employability skills of students. You can get a PG Certificate in Business/Computer Science/ Electrical Engineering etc.

Post Graduate Diploma

Postgraduate Diploma courses are relatively cheaper than our regular degree courses. Many Postgraduate diploma courses are designed with co-op options, which give you an opportunity to intern with several companies and institutes. Job oriented diploma courses can even get you good jobs internationally.

Masters

A Masters degree basically provides you with a broader view of a subject area and advanced career options. It specifies that a candidate has achieved a certain level of mastery in their particular field of study. Awarded for a min study of 2 years after Bachelor’s Degree and generally an extension of the specialization based on Bachelor’s degree. Some countries such as the United Kingdom offer Masters ranging for 12-16 Months duration. You can get a Master’s Degree in Science/Art/Law/ Business/Engineering/ Theology etc.

Integrated PHD

This is a research programme, which is mainly for the Science and Engineering & Technology field. It is after the successful completion of master’s degree and doctoral, that an integrated PhD degree is awarded to a candidate. Alternatively, you can say that an Integrated PhD is the 5 years dual degree course of master’s and PhD. Generally, in the first 2 years candidates need to study the master’s course (M.Sc or M.Tech) post which they focus on the research work and core PhD Course for next 3 years. Candidates who want to appear in this course must have at least a 3 year bachelor’s degree in their core subject. For eg. If a candidate is applying for an Integrated PhD in Chemistry, they should have completed a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. The aspirant should also have Maths at the 10 + 2 level.
